What else happened today
  • 1960 — Theodore Maiman operates the first optical laser, at Hughes Research Laboratories in Malibu, California. You can thank him for that nifty sight on your sopmod.
  • 1994 — Industrialist, philanthropist, and third generation gun innovator Valmore Allen Browning (John M. Browning's son) passed away in Ogden, Utah.
  • 2006 — Auditor General Sheila Fraser reports that the former Liberal government of Canada twice misinformed Parliament about tens of millions of dollars of overspending at the Canada Firearms Centre.
  • 2011 — The ongoing amnesty for the Canadian gun registry was due to expire. Again. It didn't.
