Before anyone asks

Yes, I know that these policies will mean that some work that has already been done will need to be done again and some will pull their hair out over it, but I really do think that this is going to save everyone a LOT of grief down the road. As usual, I'm open to suggestions... --Dennis (talk) 12:49, 21 April 2013 (CDT)

  • YA THINK?? Dont mind me saying so but a lot of grief could have been saved by dong this in the first place. just sayin. But I see one problem with your plan here - if Im reading your toolbox right, youre still going to be transcluding the date page. Why transclude it and bother with all that <noinclude> noneselse in the first place? Why not just
    1. make a template that just calls to the other pages like 'whenever/whatever'
    2. fill the template out into every date page so ANY changes can be made globally from the template itself
    3. ...?
    4. PROFIT!
The main thing -thats bugging me at least- is that every little change has to be done on a kajillion pages just to conform. Its nuts. Better one template on every page. Changes? BAM! one edit. Done. Just sayin. --ComAdmin (talk) 14:54, 21 April 2013 (CDT)
  • PS- you want any of the stuff already done done again? You do it. Just sayin. --ComAdmin (talk) 14:55, 21 April 2013 (CDT)
    • Okay, point taken. This, however, will mean having to create yet another bunch of pages — <date>/events — so that the 'happened today' box will be able to be ported to the front page properly. The idea occurred to me before but I had to ask: are we in the mood to make yet another 366 pages? In addition to the ones we need to modify already? just sayin, mirite? --Dennis (talk) 16:29, 21 April 2013 (CDT)
      • Best just do it and get it over with. Look at User:Admin/sandbox, its simple really. and 366 pages now could save 3.66x1012 of the damn things later on. --ComAdmin (talk) 17:07, 21 April 2013 (CDT)
        • Okay, had a look at it, not bad. Only changes would be that DEFAULTSORT would have to be {{{4}}} and month {{{3}}} instead of the other way around; otherwise the software might end up thinking the defsort is "November." Only question now is, any ideas for the image gallery for each day? But I'll start up the template anyway. For now, let's have nobody making any changes to date pages, okay? --Dennis (talk) 11:43, 22 April 2013 (CDT)
          • You seem to have figured it out. Of course, this means yet another 366 pages but it could be worse - a lot. Ill give it a test run for the first week of May. Does this mean the project page needs to be rewritten? again? just wondering --ComAdmin (talk) 17:01, 22 April 2013 (CDT)

OT

  • OT: Wow. I go away for a while and everything gets all ------ weird. Nice to see regsitrations are back again (I'm here aren't I?) but why can't I edit my own page? All there is is a view source tab at the top of the page. Can't use my sandbox either. What's with that? --Anonymous (talk) 15:27, 21 April 2013 (CDT)
    • HEY! good to see ya back! To answer your question: long story short is you'll be able to edit your page in 3 days. It's a change to the config I had to make to bugger up the spammers before I lost my marbles... --Dennis (talk) 16:29, 21 April 2013 (CDT)
