Carolyn McCarthy is a New York Donkeycrat and the one who tried to give us the 2007 kick at the ban can. As you can see, she doesn't know what the hell she's talking about, but she sure is funny (and dyslexic, it turns out).

McCarthy got on the gun grab bandwagon after December 7, 1993, when her husband was killed and her son was severely injured on a Long Island Rail Road commuter train at the Merillon Avenue station, when mass murderer, Colin Ferguson, opened fire on random passengers (all of whom were disarmed for his convenience by local gun law). Her first reaction to this was to sue fuckineverybody — you name 'em, she sued'em. She went after

  • the company that made the bullets
  • the company that made the gun
  • the company that made the magazine that was in the gun
  • the Long Island Rail Road
  • Bigfoot
  • a midget

When she didn't get any big money from that, she decided to get into politics.

In 1996 she played the pity card and testified in a congressional hearing against a Republican measure to repeal the federal Assault Weapons Ban.

She also got her panties in a bunch over Kirsten Gillibrand being a Senator for New York and was yammering about running against her in the 2010 Senatorial special election, because Gillibrand believed in people's rights and had a 100% good rating from the NRA (at the time). After what happened to the Dems the Dems got the Great Butthurt from the special election in Massachusetts January 19, she backed off.

The list

Some of the wackier stuff she's done so far is:

  • 1997: She sponsored a bill requiring trigger locks on everybody's guns.[1]
  • 1997: She tried to to ban gun sales to tourists to the United States after Ali Hassan Abu Kamal went nuts in the Empire State building.
  • 1997 again: (busy year) She opposed a Treasury bill provision that allowed importing weapons that were banned for sale in the U.S. at the time.
  • 1999: After Columbine, she submitted a bill demanding all firearms be "child-resistant" (whatever the hell that's supposed to mean; maybe it's another shoulder thing that goes up) and to make it harder for young adults who follow the law to buy guns[2] along with fucking up regulating fucking up gun shows.[3]
  • Yep, happens all the time...
2005: She tried to get bolt action 50 cal. rifles banned because ... (wait for it) ... "The .50 Caliber Sniper Rifle has the ability to shoot down aircraft" and "We must change our pre-9/11 gun laws to stop terrorists from legally obtaining weapons of mass destruction [huh?] like the .50 Caliber Sniper Rifle."[4] She finished it off with (not making this up) "Its time to listen to common sense and ban the .50 Caliber Sniper Rifle."
  • 2007: After the Assault Weapons Ban expired in September, she introduced the fundraiser bill[5], the "Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2007" to bring it back (and ban 46 more models of guns) in February 2007. Read its own article to see just how bad that piece of crap was.
