Scaled graph showing the correlation and causation most likely to co-exist between Canadian and American homicide rates. Notice how the U.S. murder rate dropped in correlation with the easing of firearms restrictions in most states, the popularity of CCW and the adoption of Castle doctrine. In contrast, the Canadian murder rate increased as firearms restrictions, including de facto bans on carrying on firearms and even against armed defense in one's own home, and so-called "safe storage" regulations made equalized self-defence almost impossible.
