  • 1869 — Noon cannon on Parliament Hill in the Canadian capitol of Ottawa was fired for the first time.
  • 1881 — The "Four Dead in Five Seconds Gunfight" is fought in El Paso, Texas.
  • 2003 — The Canada Firearms Centre was transferred from the Department of Justice and becomes an independent agency within the Solicitor General Portfolio.
  • 2006 — The city of New Orleans announced it would begin returning firearms illegally seized during hurricane Katrina, but as of early 2008, many firearms were still in police possession, and the matter was still in court. "Soldiers and cops," indeed.
  • 2010 — The FN SCAR became the first new assault rifle procured by the U.S. Military through a full and open competition since the M16 trials were held in the mid-1960s.
