  • 1896 — Swedish chemist and engineer Alfred Nobel passed away in Sanremo, Italy, at the age of 63. Nobel was best known as the inventor of dynamite, gelignite, and ballistite, and the founder of the Nobel Prize.
  • 2012 — World-renowned American exhibition shooter Bob Munden, best known for holding 18 world records in Fast Draw and being named "Fastest Man with a Gun Who Ever Lived," by Guinness World Records, died of a heart attack outside of Missoula, Montana.
