1917 — The Huot automatic rifle is examined at the Rockcliffe Rifle Range, leading S. C. Meuburn to recommend it be adopted by the British Army. Master-General of Ordnance Major Blair wrote to the British Minister of Munitions, saying tooling existed in Canada and the Dominion Factory was ready to begin manufacturing the Huot, using parts from Rosses scheduled for scrapping. 1941 — Standardization of the M1 Carbine is approved by the US Army Ordnance Department. Contrary to popular myth, "Carbine Williams" had little to do with the carbine's development, other than his short-stroke gas piston design.
