The European American Armory Corporation (EAA) is an American importer, manufacturer and distributor of firearms, air guns and various accessories, based in Rockledge, Florida. Founded in 1997, EAA has religiously adhered to some policies which have brought them both praise and criticism within the firearms owners' community.

[edit] Products

EAA manufactures and imports a wide variety of firearms, air guns and accessories, including the Serbian Zastava Black Arrow rifle in .50 BMG and Zastava PAP in 7.62x39mm. Also offered are an array of pistols, revolvers, air guns and accessories[1]. While some of their products are available for direct purchase, the majority are available only through dedicated firearms dealers (see below).

[edit] Witness pistol safety issue

In 2008, EAA issued a safety notice[2] regarding their Italian Tanfoglio Witness style semi-automatic pistols bearing a serial number between AE00000 to AE70000. Owners of the Witness pistols in question were advised to immediately field strip the pistol and send the slide assembly to EAA for replacement of the original firing pin with an upgraded firing pin. Customers were advised NOT to attempt to replace the pin themselves because, if the firing pin is installed incorrectly in an upside down position, it may adversely affect the operation of the pistol and its safeties.

[edit] Policies and criticisms

The first policy, described in such slogans as "beautiful guns don’t hunt" and "If you want a wall hanger buy our competition," have garnered the company a reputation of valuing performance and durability over aesthetics; no small consideration among the serious shooting crowd.

On the other hand, their "No Marts at EAA Corp" policy (by which they refuse to market their general merchandise through large American chain stores such as WalMart, etc.) has led to complaints from several quarters within the firearms community. EAA markets their products by selling to firearms distributors, who sell to firearms dealers, who sell to the consumer. While EAA insists that this type of distribution provides for the most knowledgeable sales people, some have complained that the policy limits availability to the wider consumer market. Others have even speculated that EAA is attempting to maintain anticompetitive control over retail pricing of their goods (this despite EAA being, as of 2008, one one of the few firearm companies that has not had any large price increases in the last few years).
