A stub is an article in the Gunsopedia that is either just plain too short or is missing some vital information. For some examples of articles that have been identified and labeled as stubs, see category:stubs

The objective of this article is to provide some general guidelines for dealing with stubs.

Contents

[edit] Basic information

A stub is an article that only has a few sentences of text which is too short to provide much useful coverage of a subject, but not quite short enough to provide no useful information at all. Sizable articles are usually not considered stubs, even if they lack links or copy editing. With these articles, a cleanup template is usually added instead of a stub template. Note that if a small article has little useful information, or if its subject has no inherent relevance to the Gunsopedia's field of interest, it may be deleted or be merged into another, more relevant article.

While a "definition" may be enough to qualify an article as a stub, Gunsopedia is not trying to be a dictionary. If little other information is ever likely to be added, the entry will likely find itself turned into a redirect (pointing to a page or section of a page containing the information in question) or deleted altogether.

[edit] Tagging stubs

The simplest way to flag a page as a stub is to just insert the {{stub}} template into the text of the article (preferably at the bottom). The stub template looks like this:

You (yes, you!) can help Gunsopedia and our users by using your own knowledge to expand it

[edit] Fixing stubs

The good thing about stubs is that anybody and add information that they know to the article, making it big enough and complete enough that it isn't considered a stub anymore. Remember that the GP is a Wiki and as such, user input is not only possible, it's encouraged. It's the knowledge and experience of our users that will make this project a success.

[edit] Removing stub status

Once a stub has been properly expanded and becomes a larger article, any editor may remove its stub template. No administrator action or formal permission is needed.

Many articles still marked as stubs have in fact been expanded beyond what is regarded as stub size. If an article is too large to be considered a stub but still needs expansion, replace the stub template with an {{expand}} template (no article should contain both a stub template and an expand template).

Be bold in removing stub tags that are clearly no longer applicable.
