- 1860 — John Bell Blish is born in Seymour, Indiana.
- 1916 — Joseph Huot meets with Canadian Army Colonel Matyche and is hired by the Government Small Arms Experimental Department to licence-produce his modified version of the Ross rifle.
- 2005 — Hurricane Katrina gun grab: a city-wide order by New Orleans Police Superintendent Eddie Compass, at the behest of Mayor Ray Nagin, to local police, National Guard troops, and US Marshals to confiscate all civilian-held firearms. "No one will be able to be armed," Compass said. "Guns will be taken. Only law enforcement will be allowed to have guns." Seizures were carried out without warrant, and in some cases with excessive force.
- 2009 — MAIG had a bad day:
- MAIG Mayor Sheila Dixon's trial on 12 counts (4 perjury, 2 misconduct, 3 theft, 3 fraudulent misappropriations) is postponed to November 9, 2009.
- MAIG Mayor Eddie Perez was arraigned on bribery, fabricating evidence, and conspiracy to fabricate evidence felony charges. His trial date was postponed to November 2009. His September 2 arrest on charges of first-degree larceny by extortion was not dealt with at this appearance.
